[Rakka stands back, looking to be even more nervous then that time on the roof.]

...Of course I can, Penny. [She shifts, arms wrapping around herself.] It's all my fault. I shouldn't have... I never wanted to make you scared of me, or worry like that.

[Maybe she shouldn't have said anything at all.]

No, no no no, you didn't do anything wrong! It's not you I got scared of.

[She takes a few, pacing steps, folding her arms and hugging herself.]

It's just- ...I still love Ruby. A lot. Even before we started dating- she was my first friend ever. That's- she's still really important to me, even if she's not here.

[Her cheeks flush pink. She's messing this up, she's making it worse, she should've just stayed away and been a forest hobo forever.]

But you're really important to me too. I didn't realize just how much until you told me.

Of course, Penny. Ruby must have been really amazing, I wouldn't want to make you think any less of her.

[Heck, she only knew Ruby a little, but she seemed like a perfectly nice girl.

She blinks, registering what Penny's saying.]

Oh... really?

She is.

[She's quiet for another moment, chewing her lip before going on.]

Really. I just- I keep waiting for Ruby to come back. I don't know if I even could stop waiting. But. I don't want to miss a chance at being happy with someone else I feel that way about because I'm waiting for something that might not ever happen.

[She squeezes her eyes shut, the admission causing an almost physical pain.]

I mean- ...I don't want you to think you're some kind of- second choice, or substitute or something. I care about you because you're you. And. Either one of us could vanish any time, like Ruby did. And Dave, and Ashley.

And I don't want that to happen without telling you. Um. That I think I feel the same way about you.

[The noticeable way in which Penny speaks about her true feelings hurts Rakka almost visibly too. All of those names were ones she was still hoping would come back someday. Even if they may not.]

It... it's really hard to think about, Penny. I understand though, even before I was here, I had to-

[But Penny keeps talking, and the strength of Rakka's voice begins to drop , and suddenly she's not sure she can say anything. But her face is definitely turning a slight shade of red.]

... You- do you mean that... Penny?

I do.

[Her face is pretty red too, Rakka. Yay?]

You're always so kind and supportive of everyone around you, and you're really fun to spend time with, and whenever you smile it's really sweet and I kind of want to protect it a lot? Like a lot.

I mean- if you still want. After. Everything.

[Cool, they can match her hair.]

Yes!

[coughcough]

Uh! Well if that's... what you want. Then, yes! I would like that. A lot. Thank you.

...I should probably shower first, I've been in the woods for four days.

Sure, I'd love to- ooh. [Um, she's finally catching a whiff of Penny and. Mm.]

Maybe that's a good idea. Y-you were really in the woods for four days?

Mm- three or four? Three and a half? I was only human for about two, though.

Three or- and that was all because of me? [Feeling a little bad again....!]

T-then yes! You should take a bath, Penny. A-and eat if you have to, and everything else!

[Now that's channeling her concern into being productive.]

It's not your fault, I promise! Even if you'd told me some other time, I probably would've ended up hiding in the closet or something.

[Penny please.]

But- yes. We can talk more after. Please. I promise I'm not going anywhere again.

Okay, okay... Good.

[a smile slowly slips onto her face]

I'd love to talk more later. And, uh, I'm really glad you're back. And not out in the cold woods anymore.

I'm glad to be back.

[She pauses briefly to take Rakka's hand, giving it a quick squeeze before heading towards the door.]

...I need to apologize to Jane, too.

[Rakka is following right behind Penny now, because she's got Penny's hand and it feels nice and everything about this is new and exciting!!]

Yes, you should. I think she was kind of worried about both of us for a while.

She's a good friend. ...it's- all right to tell her what really happened, right? I mean about us. You said it was kind of secret-

[A pause, and she gives Penny's hand a gentle squeeze.]

It'll be fine. We can tell her later, and maybe we can do it together?

[Maybe that will make things easier somewhat.]

Okay. I mean I was more worried about you being nervous or wanting it to be secret, but- yes. Let's.

[She gives Rakka a smile smile, squeezing her hand. And- pauses, because even in a house this size presumably it doesn't take that long to reach the bathrooms.]

I'll see you once I'm done.

[She leans in towards Rakka a little then stops, hesitating as her cheeks flush again.]

Um- can I? Is it too soon?

...Well, I do feel a lot better about it now that I told you.

[She follows behind Penny, never losing her grip on her hand.]

And... if I keep it a secret, how will all our friends find out about it?

[She'd rather they be happy for them! If that's alright with Penny, of course.

But then Rakka's very much aware of how close Penny is, and the color of her cheeks, and the color of her own cheeks.]

Uh, no! Not at all! I'd be happy to...

[They'd never wanted it to be a secret, really, her and Ruby. But so much had happened so quickly after that dance-.]

I guess you've got me there!

[She giggles a little.]

And- um. Okay.

[She leans in and gives Rakka a quick kiss on the cheek. It's barely more than a peck, but it leaves Penny's face burning.]

I'll- come find you when I'm done. And then we can go talk to Jane.

[And that's how Rakka's thought processes shut down completely. She's vaguely aware of the heat in her face at least.]

Uhh... okay.

[You go do that, Penny. She'll be here. Probably in the same position.]
