Yup. It was a pretty "rocks fall, everyone dies," situation. The game gave us enough time for us to spirit our own selves and our domiciles into the ether but that was it, everyone else on the planet was essentially utterly boned.

[He used to be able to tell this story with such ease, like he really didn't care. Like it didn't affect him. Really, how much had he ever known about the world to feel attached to it?

And maybe he still doesn't. Mostly, he thinks he feels cheated.]

[...]

Maybe, don't fight with him. Just...spend time with him every now and then. How's that sound?

[...] O-okay. I'll do that.

[Even as he explains it, Rakka couldn't shake the full implications of this story off of herself; Dave's world ended, from a game? Everything just... ended.

And she catches on, with some small worry, that this is affecting him. Rakka could only be polite and wait for a lull in his storytelling.]

T-that's awful! All the life on your planet? Every single person except for your friends, dying from some big event they couldn't stop...?

[It's difficult to wrap her head around already.] I can't even imagine it...

I mean...

[He trails off, then shrugs stiffly. He doesn't really know what to say. It's probably why he's never said much about it.]

Shit happens. Nowhere's perfect.

[There isn't much one can say about it, besides the obvious. Which is why Rakka's mostly gone into silence.]

I... I know. But it's still horrifying. I'm sorry that it happened to you, Dave.

[She still can't believe it. All those lives...]

...Sorry. What happened next? You said that you ended up in an... anther?

Well, where I technically ended up was called the Land of Heat and Clockwork, or LOHAC for short.

[He spins his finger in the air to make a circle.]

It was this little planet made of lava and gears and melting skyscrapers. And it turned out to be one in a set of four, one for each of us, me and my friends, and it was full of monsters that we had to beat so we could gather materials to build up our home bases and get better at fighting. I figured out I had time travel powers there.

"Lo... hac". [She's doing her best to commit the entirety of Dave's explanation to memory; the end of the world, new worlds? If Rakka hadn't already been put in a new world for her own experience, then she would have... still believed Dave. That's just the truth of it.]

O-okay. [She nods solemnly.] So, your world was just lava and.. buildings? But that can't just be it, can it?

[She's not accusing, merely curious for details.]

Mostly. Oh, and crocodiles. Or alligators. I don't really know the difference. Whatever they were, they were obnoxious.

[He settles back in his seat.]

Wonder what happened to them.

Uh, crocodiles? And they were just living on that world with you? O-okay.

[... Has she taken a seat? Rakka should definitely be sitting down by this point.]

Do you miss it? It sounds so... dangerous.

[He's apparently unsure what to do with this question.]

...Not really.

[To both. It wasn't that dangerous, and...]

I wasn't actually there that long. I miss my apartment, I guess. Sometimes. Parts of it.

You should, I mean... it was your home.

[Unless... The sentence sits in the bottom of her mouth, waiting to come out. It's something that translates into a look on her face.]

Unless you didn't like it there?

[He doesn't answer for a long four seconds.]

The air conditioning was always broken.

[It's getting harder and harder to dodge this shit, the more he realizes the size of it. The mass of everything he'd had to deal with, growing up.]

Anyway, not the point. Long story short, things happened, and I had to leave that planet to go on a meteor road trip with Karkat and my sister and some other aliens for a while.

[Make that a noticeably long four seconds. There were many things going on here, and the more Rakka started to learn about it, the more she wanted to know. It's a dangerous thing, being curious.]

O-oh...

[That's rough, buddy.]

So after all that, you still couldn't stay in one place. You had to keep going? [She's amazed. Meteor road trips sound cool.] Just, how long did you have to travel?

[John does not back down on promises - at least not when those promises involve movies. He's gone out and spent some of his hard-earned Pokédollars on a couple of DVDs, which he is holding in his hands as he stands outside Rakka's door. He knocks with his free hand.]

Hey, Rakka! Remember how I said you have a bunch of awesome movies to catch up on? Well guess what I brought!

[She wasn't doing much at the time, just sitting around with her Pokemon ~~plotting~~ planning her next move in Badgequest2016, and also trying out flappy pidgey on her pokegear. So when she hears a knock, she's up and hops right over.]

Oh John, hello! [She quickly spots the small stack of dvds in his hands.]

Oh yeah, the movies!

Yeah, the movies! I have Gastlybusters, and Gastlybusters II, and also this Gastlybusters with lady busters? I also brought Arceus-geddon, Little Pocket Monsters, and Failure to Clauncher. The last one is a rom com, since I guess you like those okay.

[He shrugs and walks inside, sorting through his small stack.]

Anyways, I think the most important one to start with is Gastlybusters. What do you think?

[She has no idea what any of those are about- but, hey John's excited.]

Uh, sure! [Come in, John. Not much is happening. Try not to step on the few pokemon wandering around.] That's the one you told me about, isn't it? Or... we kind of talked about it.

Yeah! I told you about Ghostbust- sorry, Gastlybusters. [These new Pokemon names take some getting used to.] And then I think I also talked about Arceus-geddon? That was the one with the meteor.

Either way, if Gastlybusters is anywhere near as good as the original normal movie, then it is a must see. Like, immediately.

Uh, right. Immediately.

[Bright the Espurr watches John from the corner, following his moments. That probably means she likes him.]

Well, if there's anything that's different with them, maybe you'll be able to point out what's wrong. [Still, she's pretty excited for something that's not a pokeromcom.] Let's start it!

Don't worry, even if I haven't seen the original in a little bit, I am a Ghostbusters Expert. I will let you know anything that's different.

[Which is probably a lot. John makes his way over to the TV and DVD player that are ideally hypothetically in this room and begins setting up, setting the stack off to the side and taking out the disc. As soon as he gets it in, the menu pops up with an instrumental of the theme song playing. John looks back at her with a grin.]

Isn't this like the best song you've ever heard?

Ah. [She'll nod in agreement, and appreciation of John's movie-going knowledge. You start up that movie, John. Rakka takes a seat in anticipation of it.

As soon as he starts it, her eyes are attached to that screen, and the music that suddenly comes on.

...She may be bouncing to the beat. Only a little.]

It's... something!

Only something? Rakka, this is only the greatest theme song in the history of theme songs. It is an amazing something is what it is!

[Still, John doesn't press the point and presses play instead, going to sit down next to her, eager as always to watch his favorite movie.]
