Preincarnation Species: Haibane
Preincarnation Appearance: Here.
Any differences: Her halo and wings will not be on her human self.
Preincarnated History: Spoilers for Haibane Renmei.

Rakka awoke one day to find herself inside a strange cocoon, dressed in simple, white clothes, and already a teenager. She didn't remember anything about herself or why she was in the cocoon in the first place. The only thing she knew was the dream she had in the cocoon. All Haibane have a dream when they're in the cocoon, and all of them are named according to their dreams. Rakka dreamt was that she was falling through endless clouds. Ergo, her name basically means "Fall".

Once she has "hatched" from the cocoon, Rakka wakes up in a bed and is introduced to the other Haibane. Kuu, Kana, Hikari, Nemu, Hyoko and specifically Reki, who found her cocoon in the first place and grows a strong attachment to her. She receives a glowing ring that floats above her head that all Haibane are supposed to get, and after falling sick later that night, wings grow out of her back in a particularly painful way. All of this happens on her first day.

Over time Rakka learned about the Haibane, the town of Glie that they live in, the world around them, and herself. Although, there are many things that she still doesn't fully understand. Like, why do the Haibane exist? Why do they have wings? Where were her parents?

To fully explain it would be impossible, but the Haibane are a people separate from normal people as they come out of cocoons, grow wings out of their backs, and get halos that float above their heads. It's not really known why this happens, or where the Haibane come from. And beccause they are different, they fall under the jurisdiction of the Haibane Renmei, a group that house the Haibane and help them live their lives in peace. They follow a set of rules as well. They cannot buy anything new, they must only take things that are used, and use a special notebook instead of money. They also must live away from the town in a place called Old Home. Which used to be an old school that was left for them. Every Haibane eventually has a day of flight, where they go into the forest and vanish in a tower of light, never to be seen again. If a Haibane does not take the day of flight, their wings will fall off, and they will grow old and die.

As Rakka adjusts to this life, she begins to grow accustomed to the town, and meets a variety of people. Including, the Haibane of the Factory, another home for Haibane across the town. And the Toga, a group of strange people always wearing masks that aren't allowed to communicate with the others unless there's a communicator with them. They are the only people allowed to go outside the walls, and bring things back in to trade with the town. The Toga are also part of the Haibane renmei, and they have helped the Haibane many times before. They even gave Rakka her name.

For a while nothing happened. Rakka's life was pretty good, and while her search for answers to where her family was proved fruitless, she was thankful that her new friends were there with her. But it wasn't long before she started to notice strange things. Immedietly after being shown the town, Rakka found herself stalked by a crow that looked exactly like one that she saw in her dream. And then, one day her friend Kuu, the youngest Haibane, suddenly left one day into the forest, disappearing in a tower of light that stretched up into the sky. When the others got there, only her halo was left behind, meaning Kuu had taken her day of flight.

Rakka was deeply upset by this, especially since she was the last person to see her. It was made even worse, as not soon after odd, black spots began to appear on Rakka's wings. They slowly spread through her feathers, Rakka unable to stop them in any way. Desperately, she tried cutting her feathers and was discovered by Reki in the process. Being her closest friend, Reki is shocked at the development, but offers a solution. Revealing that she herself has the same affliction, Reki provides a solution that paints Rakka's wings their previous color and hides the black spots.

It is revealed to Rakka that she is "sinvound". A sinbound Haibane is one that has commited a sin and must pay the price. As such, Rakka will be unable to take her day of flight when it comes, and is really afraid that someone might discover this and hate her for it. With Reki's help though, she is able to hide it.

Unfortunately, her depression spirals out of control. Unable to figure out why or how she has sinned, Rakka begins to wonder why she exists at all. At this time, the crow finds Rakka again and leads her into the forest, In there she finds a well and falls in, leaving herself stuck and trapped. In there she finds a bird skeleton, the one belonging to the bird in her dream. It had lead her there and Rakka slowly starts to understand her dream. Finding herself at peace with the bird, she buries the skeleton and is rescused by two Toga that come across the well. They do not tell her anything about Kuu though, despite her pleas. She tries to follow them but gets lost and eventually comes across a part of the wall. Despite the warnings, she touches it and hears Kuu's voice. The communicator finds her and brings her to the right exit of the forest, teaching her that only she herself can make her sin disappear. She is quickly found by the other Haibane and taken home, becoming very sick as a side effect of touching the wall. In the night, with Reki watching over her, her wings are cured and she is no longer sinbound.

Soon, Rakka faces punishment for touching the wall, but she takes it in stride and accepts it. Reki on the other hand falls further and further into despair, as her friend has been cured of sin while she has not. Eventually she very nearly falls victim to it, but with the help of Rakka the two are able to pull through. Reki takes her day of flight, and rakka becomes the new leader of Old home.

Reincarnated History: Rakka Yoshitoshi was an only child, born into a very prestigious Japanese family in a very modern and big part of Japan. Her mother and father both worked long hours of the day, raking in money from their company, the Kuroi hane Corporation; a large shipping conglomerate that also did relief aid. Most of her life, Rakka was raised in moderate comfort. She was sent to good schools, and had a few maids and butlers to help around her.

Life was good for her, but at the same time it had more then a few problems because of her parents.

They weren't ready for her when she was born. They were more business than family in any regard and they were always away, working on other things and generally leaving their daughter on her own. They cared, but possibly too little. Unfortunately, it was as though they were treating her as kind of an afterthought. To make it worse for Rakka, they would argue when they were around, about each other, about work,... and about her. Rakka had wished multiple times that it could change, that they could be more happier as a family than they were. This isolated parentage took its toll, Rakka basically coming to the conclusion that it could have been her fault they were angry so much.

Maybe... it would have been better if she had not existed.

For months, Rakka was alone in a crowd, slowly growing more and more depressed. Eventually it got so bad that one day Rakka went up into her house and jumped off the fourth story balcony, falling until she luckily landed in their swimming pool. Oh, she was fine, apart from a broken arm and a slight concussion, and she actually got her parents to both come to the hospital to check and see if she was okay. Too bad that didn't last at all. And while they did actually show concern, her parents decided that another course of action must be taken.

Their daughter was clearly acting very out of sorts, though they were not sure why. It must be because of her surroundings, they decided. Clearly, what she needs is to go somewhere else and make some new, interesting friends to raise her spirits. As well as stay in a safe place away from home.

And thus, Rakka was packed up and shipped out to the United states of America, forced to leave any friends she had. Eventually placing her in Locke city as a foreign student at the highschool. They knew she would be fine living here in one of their home-away-from-homes, once again staffed with people to assist her every need. This was simultaneously the worst, and the best idea they would ever had. They just don't know it yet, and neither does Rakka. And while Rakka was not happy about the whole thing, she was willing to give it a chance, for now at least.

First Echo: Rakka's first echo came to her as a dream. As she fell asleep for the first time in Locke city, she was overcome by a deep slumber, deeper than any she had experienced before.

She dreamed that she was falling through the sky. Dressed in only simple, white clothes, she fell endlessly through clouds, the ground never in sight. Instead of being scared though, Rakka was calmed by the dream and overcome with an odd sense of... nostalgia, like she had dreamed this dream before. She fell endlessly for who knows how long before Rakka finally awoke.

One of the first things she did was phone her parents about the strange dream. Unfortunately this made them even more worried about her, repeatedly demanding to know if she had jumped before and what else she might have been hiding from them. Rakka restated that she hadn't done it before, and that the whole thing was basically a strange dream to her. The entire thing was just chalked up to a dream brought on by stress and everyone tried their best to forget about it.

But Rakka never did forget about it. It had just seemed so real...

Preincarnation Personality: Rakka of Glie was a very pure soul. You could even say that she was holy. "Born" with a child-like innocence. Rakka was, at first, a blank slate of sorts. Without even a name, she was unsure of what she was and deeply insecure about it. Her first hours in this world were a mass of confusion, fear and pain for her, but she made it out with the help of Reki.

After her first day, Rakka slowly came to terms with her new home. Without much of anything to go on, she simply accepted it and calmly followed the others examples. Slowly, she came to understand her new home, and found a place with the other Haibane.

Her innocence still exists. As an endless bout of curiosity drives Rakka to explore her new world, looking for answers to both this world, and the one she has no memory of. There is no doubt that she absolutely loves the world around her, it is just that she very much wants to discover her forgotten parents and the life she somehow left behind. Unfortunately, her naivety in her current surroundings leads her into trouble sometimes, as she might forget to heed someone's advice. Such as one time that she touched the wall that went around the town and made her horribly sick.

Her fear does not drive her away. Rather, it seems to push her forward, driving her to do the right Thing. As seen when she goes to touch the wall, and after when she goes to the Toga to accept her punishment. Her bravery does falter though when she becomes sinbound, as she is afraid of what the others might think if they discover it.

She can also be quite philisophical, despite her age. The concepts of sin and redemption confuse her, but she still wishes to be redeemed anyways, and searches for answers to why she's sinbound. At one point she even begins to wonder why she exists at all. As why would someone that's sinbound have a reason to even be.

Rakka's kind personality manages to shine brightly. She's generally nice to everyone that she meets, and respectful. Although she of course has boundaries, like when the Toga refuse to tell her where Kuu has gone and she demands an answer, any answer. Her kindness lends a hand in her growing bond with Reki, whom become a sort of older sister to her, and eventually her bond with Reki helps her redeem herself.

Any differences: Rakka Yoshitoshi differentiates herself from Rakka of Glie in a few key ways.

Because of the events that eventually brought her to Locke city, Rakka has grown a sour disposition on life. Her parents distancing of her has made her fall into a kind of depression, where she is slowly beginning to believe that they do not want her and it would be better had she simply not existed, which saddens her immensely. It also leaves her with a lower than normal self esteem, as her previous friends would not listen to her problems and eventually left her.

Because of this, Rakka has grown up with a distant persona. She's shy and less likely to go out and socialize than most people, preferring to be left alone for the most part, because sometimes that's just easier for her. Because of the problems she faced back home, she might shrink away and try to change the subject, or even shout at you if you push one of her buttons. In a sense, this is all a mask to protect her from more disappointment.

But her old personality still does shine through, and it will show more and more as she experiences her echoes. Her curiosity is a major reason why she's still in the town; she is infinitely curious about the echoes. After experiencing her first one, she deeply wishes to find more of them and figure out these strange memories of a life that isn't her own. Her kindness is also still there, only it is hidden under the aforementioned mask and will only be fully revealed to those that gain her trust.

Abilities: Rakka possesses all the normal abilities for someone her age. She can cook and bake fairly well. She's not terribly physically active, but she is healthy.

Roleplay Sample - Third Person: Planning to come here
Meeting a familiar face in an AU
Meeting a squid girl

Roleplay Sample - Network: [The network comes to life and focuses on a young woman. She appears to be dressed in a pair of simple pajama clothes and is sitting near a window where the night sky and stars are visible. The screen is somewhere below her, and she is looking down at it nonchalantly for the moment. But soon, the moment passes, and her eyes slowly widen until they're as open as they can go. Then, the screen suddenly, and violently changes, as the girl pushes away from it and scrambles away.

For a brief moment, the screen falls on the window, the moon hanging full in the sky. It's only for a moment though, as it is picked up once again and turned until it shows the girl's face. She looks un-amused to put it lightly.]

I... I can't believe this. ...I must be going insane...

...Maybe they were right....[Her face drops briefly and she frowns. Then she perks up again, brushing some short brown hair from her face.] No, that's stupid. This must be something else.

[Hesitantly, she poked the screen.]

Hello? Who's doing this?

Any Questions? Can characters regain former parts of their body? Because I'm planning on having Rakka regrow her wings one day.
